ANA Inspiration Partners with Leading Golf Artist Graeme Baxter
Baxter to create painting of famed 18th hole at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.
RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA, April 1, 2015 – ANA Inspiration, the LPGA’s first major championship of the season and the longest running in its history today announced the commissioning of a new painting by world renowned golf artist Graeme Baxter.
A truly inspiring gift for the champion of the ANA Inspiration, April 2-5, 2015, the painting which was unveiled today ahead of the championship depicts the 18th hole at Mission Hills Country Club including the iconic Poppie’s Pond and statue of tournament founder Dinah Shore.
A native of Scotland, Baxter is the official artist to some of the world’s most historic and prestigious golf tournaments such as The Ryder Cup, The Open Championship, The President’s Cup and now the ANA Inspiration. He is also artist to the PGA and European tours and for the last 20 years, has presented a painting to the champion.
“Firstly this commission is very important as it maintains a well-honored tradition of this iconic championship and I’m hugely exciting to work with “All Nippon Airways” (ANA), an airline that clearly respects this wonderful game and this tournament of legendary status. For me this specific painting is not just a view of the 18th hole at Mission Hills Country Club, this is a view of a landscape that has defined and shaped golfing history. This is the spiritual home of ladies golf where champions have become legends and some of the sport’s most iconic moments have been witnessed.
“For me and many players and fans not only is this the number one course in the Desert but also the number one major in women’s golf and I hope I’ve truly captured its stunning beauty. To be given this opportunity a true honor and inspiration for me. I have a real passion for what I do, and I know ANA share that passion for what they do as a global leading airline which is very evident this week.
Baxter’s painting of the ANA Inspiration will depict a south-facing view of the 18th hole, which includes Poppie’s Pond, Dinah Shore’s statue, the fan grandstands and new tournament leaderboard. Prints of the painting will be given as a special gift to all participants in the ANA Inspiration Pro-Am.
In November 2014, ANA, Japan’s leading airline, announced its partnership with the LPGA to become the title sponsor of the first major of the LPGA season as well as becoming the Official Airline of the LPGA. The theme of inspiration will serve as the platform for this tournament and ANA is looking forward to reaching an audience in North American and globally with the ANA Inspiration while maintaining the long-standing traditions of the championship.
“We are honored to continue the traditions of the ANA Inspiration and we are proud to partner with Graeme Baxter on his artistic portrayal of the famed 18th green, Dinah Shore statue and Poppie’s Pond at Mission Hills Country Club. We want the champion and all our guests to have a memorable experience of Rancho Mirage in Palm Springs that stays fresh and close to their hearts. We believe this painting is an ideal memento with a stunning scene which guests, fans and the champion will always have.” said Takashi Shiki, ANA Executive Vice President, Marketing & Sales, CS & Products Services.
This year, the painting will be displayed at the Mission Hills Country Club clubhouse during the ANA Inspiration and will then move to ANA’s global headquarters in Tokyo. ANA Inspiration attendees can view Baxter’s painting during their visit to the tournament.
